Some practice will yield the result of taking the top off a soft- or hard-boiled egg with relative ease. Several smaller "hits" are better than on big one!! Hold the bottom "bell" firmly on the egg, give a slight pull on the spring-loaded knob, and release the knob while continuing to hold the bell on the egg. The first key is firm, symmetrical contact of the bell with the egg shell, along with judicious pulls on the knob. Too high of a pull will result in a shattered, messy egg shell. Less is more! I use this every morning for soft-boiled eggs, and I am very pleased. Highly recommended!!
This device is extremely sturdy and well-made. You hold the cup against the top of an egg in one hand, and then lift the ball with the other hand and release. The recoil makes the cup tap the top of the egg and creates a clean circular cut in the shell. The set comes with a small flatish spoon type device to lift the shell up with, but it is also possible to just lift off the top by hand. I tried using this against an egg that was in an egg cup (instead of holding the egg in my hand) and it crushed the egg into the egg cup, caving the sides of the shell. This is easy to use correctly and makes eating a soft-boiled egg much easier/less prone to getting shell into your bites of egg.
Neatly takes the top off of raw or boiled eggs, with a neat little cap. I love soft boiled eggs, though I use it for all eggs, for whatever purpose, as I utilize the neat bottoms, filled with top soil or vermiculite. to start plants in my green house. If clack the egg, narrow side down, so air-sack side up, it neatly takes a little shell 'cap' off cleanly. Just as it is supposed to do, and just like the picture in the advertisement. Just firmly seat on the egg, one clack, and tease the little shell cap up and off. Easy.
This is such a clever idea. It usually takes me 2-3 times, and it forms a perfect circle on top of the egg. Then the rest of the shell slides right off.
Well made and makes a perfect circle on the egg. I am still perfecting of the technique. Sometimes I snap it twice. I have used it on both boiled eggs and raw eggs. It is a very handy tool.

It seems cool at first, but the reality is that you'll end up with plenty of tiny shell fragments in your mouth when you use this cracker. It just doesn't do the job. Eggs have a tough inner membrane attached beneath the shell. If you are very gentle and only pull the spring half way out, it will make an nice even, single, circular crack around the shell but leave the membrane intact. Then you must arduously try to peel shell off of the membrane which ends up cracking it into many tiny shell fragments. If you pull the spring farther out it will still make a circular double crack around the shell, with many very tiny pieces of shell that are impossible to keep from mixing with the egg. And in both instances you will have to deal with the membrane, which is attached to both the egg and the shell. You will spend far more time trying to separate the tiny shell fragments and membrane from the egg than if you simply used the quick knife trick. With the knife you may still generate a couple of small fragments, but most of them will be captured by the membrane. If you scoop out the egg with the spoon sideways, the shell fragments will stay with the shell and you can enjoy the egg..
Worked perfectly. This gadget is great. The very first time I used it, cut a perfect ring. So much nicer to use than whacking it with a knife or spoon.
It works! I thought for sure this was not going to be as nice as described, but it cuts a perfect circle in the shell every time and cleans up easily.
Having bought a few non-essential kitchen tools (strawberry huller, strawberry slicer, pineapple corer/cutter etc) I wasn't expecting this to work as well as the pictures show. Comes out exactly the same. Perfectly clean cut.
