BACKGROUND:
If any of you have purchased organic eggs from Costco, you might have gone through the same frustration as I did when it comes to hard boiling them. For whatever reason, their organic eggs always stick to the shells when you hard boil them, making it tiresome to peel when you boil a half dozen or more. I've tried methods such as cooling or soaking them in ice water, but neither of these worked. After some research, I found a forum comment on the same problem and the solution was to use a electric egg cooker. I didn't want another bulky kitchen gadget to take up space just for cooking eggs, so I did more searching and realized that the reason the egg cooker worked was because it pokes a hole and then steamed. Ah ha! *light bulb* I didn't have any pins at home, so I tried using a paper clip (disinfected it with rubbing alcohol first) to poke a hole and test, and it worked! But paper clip was hard to use so I wanted a low cost way to do the same..and that's how I ended up with purchasing this egg piercer.

MATERIAL/CONSTRUCTION:
- The top shiny part seems to be made of a thin metal or aluminum, and the base is just plastic, and obviously a sharp pin in the middle.
- The product is made in China.
- The top and bottom base are not removeable, or at least I found no way of taking them apart. This is actually one reason I gave it 4* instead of 5* because as you start to pierce eggs, the grind off residue from the shell gets stuck on and around the pin. Since it's so small, it's difficult to keep the pin clean on the inside.

USAGE:
- It's pretty straightforward to use. You put the egg on top, press down, and you'll hear a quick piercing sound and then you have your hole. Simple and effective.

SUMMARY:
- For its simplicity and effectiveness, this piercer does the job and does it well. For the cost, it's definitely worth getting if you just want something low profile. From what I read and from using it, poking the hole not only makes it easier to peel the shell, but also helps remove some of the sulfur in the egg that causes the rotten smell when you hard boil. It will also prevent cracking when you hard boil.
- I would like to note that if you do boil the eggs, try to find a way to keep the holes upright or the yolks will leech through the hole into the boiling water. Alternatively, you can use a steamer or a steam tray, which works just as well.

CONS:
- For it's design, I give it a 3* because the top and bottom piece are not removeable, making it difficult to clean. Also, it looks and feels really cheap there is no safety mechanism. If you accidentally put your finger anywhere near the middle and accidentally picked it up and press on it, you'll hurt yourself. In hinesight, this may have been a better piercer because it has a safety lock mechanism:

Nevertheless, the RSVP egg piercer works as advertised and easily pokes holes without cracking egg shells. I would still recommend this product, but if you have little kids at home, you may want to get the one with a safety lock.
Ill be honest, i was very nervous to use this for the 1st time!! I do not know why, it is intimidating. Its a little metal thing, that fits in my palm, and it will stab the crap outta you if you decide to push on it. ( I may or may not be speaking from experience on this one! )

I have a counter top hard boiled maker
This is a really, really nice functional little kitchen item. Even when I broke and egg on it. Rinsed out and shook well. Back to like new. Makes
a big difference in the hard boiling of eggs and now they come out perfect. Puncture egg put in pan with cold water bring to a boil, 30 second
boil, turn off cover top of pan with oven mitts and let sit for 10 minutes. Pour off and run cold water. Nice yellow doneness none of that greeny
color in the yolk. Make more eggs now...healthier eating. Recommend highly.
We have been using this egg piercer for about two weeks now. It saves us time (and probably cut or pierced fingers) when making holes on the wide end of the eggs before boiling them. The hole eliminates cracking of the shell when the eggs are immersed into boiling water by letting the expanding air in the egg to escape. It is very easy to use, you just place the wide end of the egg on the piercer and press it down. It looks sturdy and seems to be made to last. The housing of the piercer is made of stainless steel. We will continue using it and update this review in the future if there is any need to make changes.
I noticed that this device has a piercing mechanism that pushes out from the base when an egg is pushed onto it.
Repeatedly I have found that the pin mechanism does not protrude far enough to actually pierce the shell completely. It leaves a small hole that one can see on the outside, but not the inside. Comparison of eggs used with and without the piercer showed no difference in outcome when cooked.

Horrible. Bad design. Breaks more eggs than it pierces. The little black plastic piece that holds the pin upright (1/4 inch black round flat disc), extends beyond the flush surface when pressed. Pushing that black plastic piece into the shell as well as the pin. Threw it in the trash after wasting several eggs all over my counter. Save your money and buy something else unless you don't mind breaking every other egg.
We have used egg prickers forever. This one makes a hole that is bit smaller than others I remember. It does the job well and cleanly however. I assume this one will last a long time egg prickers usually do. If you do not have an egg pricker, they are worth every penny in terms of eggs that do not get cracked or worse.
Being European I have used egg piercers all my life...60+ years. I am excited to have found this little gem. It does a great job piercing the eggs just right and it is a good looking gadget due to the stainless steel construction. The shells of hard boiled as well as softer boiled eggs come off easily and clean.
I love this handy tool. No more cracked eggs. Just one tiny hole and they boil perfectly. I liked it so much, I bought two more for my family.
I wish this was of better quality. Thought the product was cheaply constructed. Wouldn't buy again
