RSVP International, Egg Slicer SS
: RSVP International, Egg Slicer SS: Kitchen & Dining
In a time when most egg slicers are either aluminum or plastic, the RSVP egg slicer is high quality, 18/8 stainless steel, and will last a very long time. Additionally, if you look at the picture, you can see that this slicer can easily be rewired when needed.
Hinge is so short & flimsy that the slicer part never aligns properly with the base part, resulting in the wires catching behind the base and getting stuck there. Return for refund
Quality in general is good. The design is less than great. The hinge has enough play in it that it's still fairly easy to have the wires misaligned with the slots, which of course leads to broken wires. Mine lasted less than two months (I'm not a heavy user, used it maybe once a week). I've seen better, I've seen worse.
This egg slicer died less than six months after I bought it, with wires breaking the first time I sliced mushrooms with it. I can't recommend this.
I bought this at a local kitchen specialty shop for a dollar more than the $11.95 on Amazon. I wanted quality, as I was tired of loose egg slicer wires which easily caught on the egg holder and often broke. I DID NOT WANT ALUMINUM, as aluminum and dishwasher detergents don't mix well, and aluminum comes out the loser.
This RSVP Endurance slicer is well made of a sturdy gauge of stainless steel. There are no sharp edges anywhere. It functions very well as an egg slicer.
Look carefully at the picture. You'll notice that the holder part, furthest from the pivot, is raised up higher than the side closest to the pivot, no doubt to prevent the eggs from sliding away from the wires during the cutting action. Good design idea. Therein lies the rub, at least I thought, initially, before getting the unit. That raised part coupled with the roundness of the slicer might mean that if you prefer your egg slices so that they come out, well, egg-shaped, instead of the usual round, it might not work. So, I deliberately cut the first several hard boiled eggs that way. Result: no problem whatsoever; the slicer works fine regardless of the direction of your slicing.
How about thickness of the slices? Over many years I've discovered that slicers vary in how thick their slices are. There are eight taut wires with the space between #1 and #8 equal to 1-5/8 inch, in case you want to compare with your present slicer. I'm happy with the thickness, which is a decent thickness for mushrooms, as well. However, some slicers have 10 wires, giving a thinner slice; you may prefer one of those, though I suspect a 10 wire one may have difficulty with mushrooms.
How about mushrooms for this slicer? It works fine in most cases. When the slicer is closed, the wires go sufficiently far down past the egg/mushroom holder part to insure a clean cut, so that you can remove the egg or mushroom without part of it holding onto a small piece at the bottom of the holder. Just keep in mind when cutting a mushroom stem that the wires should not be perpendicular to the axis of the stem, because with any wire slicer you'd invite trouble at that angle. Point the stem up and you'll be fine.

Description
Strong, tight wires of the RSVP Endurance Egg Slicer cut quickly and easily through hard boiled eggs for perfect slices.
This may very well be the egg slicer that will last the longest for my family. It can also slice mushrooms and other very soft veggies/etc. Slicing an egg in slices with a knife is virtually impossible; and, this one does the job easily plus it is relatively easy to clean.
Broke one on strawberries. Wrote to the company and they replaced it for free. Broke that one on mushrooms. It ended up in the trash. I'll be buying a different brand.
Looks good but didn’t last long
This egg slicer so impressed my 4 year old nephew that I now have to order one for him to give his parents for Christmas! The only problem with this product is that it is too small to accommodate large eggs easily. The first large egg I put in it ended up quite squished. I let the second one cool longer and cut it slower and had no problems.
great
