I picked this egg slicer because it was made in Germany. I purchased the item in July and use it every day. Although I use often it should last for at least a year. As I was slicing an egg one of the wire guidelines broke!
I thought because it was of German craftsmanship and recommended by Amazon this would be a quality product. The hinge does not align well and the wires can fall on top of the base instead of within the open groves. This can cause you to break the wires. BEWARE if purchasing. I will choose another manufacturer for my purchases in the future.
My family uses this to slice eggs, strawberries, and mushrooms. We use it anywhere from 1-4 times per week, and toss it in the top rack of the dishwasher each time. I bought it in June 2011 and it still looks and operates like new. The wires are taught and cut the food items easily. This slicer was more expensive than others on the market, but the combination of good reviews and being made in Germany convinced me to try it. Seven years on, I consider it well worth the price!
Brought this item because the reviews is quite good. But the wire broke after used it a few times - less then six weeks (only use on a few mushrooms or a couple hard boiled eggs each time)
Really wanted a product that sliced mushrooms. This isn't it, despite their claims. I've owned two, and both broke on their very first attempt at normal brown mushrooms. Snapped a wire. The company's customer support is okay, if you can contact them, but they don't list any contact info on their website!
Basically, this all steel, extra-tough model can slice eggs for $20. But so can a model you can buy for $6, and I've never experienced a failure with any product that simply had to cut eggs.

Received with a broken wire. Leads me to believe it isn't as sturdy as other reviews have shown. Had to send it back, it just didn't have the quality feel that I expected. Ended up buying the cheaper plastic Oxxo slicer that I like much better. The cheaper Oxxo has a rubber base and just seems better, and it was half the price.
I didn't know how much I needed this until I bought one. It makes making egg salad and adding sliced eggs to salads so much easier, almost no work at all. It's big enough that I can do a 'double cut' on eggs, cutting them once length-wise then turning them and doing it again. I've had this for several months now and learned to do the quick cut and haven't broken any wires at all.
I haven't tried mushrooms or anything else yet, I'm good enough with a knife that for the most part it's not worth it. It's great for eggs as they tend to stick to the knife and it's difficult to get clean cuts in multiple directions.
I purchased this in 2017. I like to wait and use my products before I write honest reviews about them.
This product is sturdy and worth the investment. I was initially worried about purchasing this because of some reviewers stated that the wires were breaking. I still haven't had any such issues and my family has used this often to make egg salad.
